Canada appreciates the contribution of experts from the Council of Europe in implementing reforms in our state. This was stated by the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych during his meeting with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Turbyornom Jagland, the press service of the State. Yanukovych stressed that the Council of Europe is our reliable partner in building a democratic system. "Today we are working hard to ensure that the rule of law, developed legal culture, a balanced representative mechanism, the creation of really strong government and good governance were at the heart of the state policy of Ukraine", - said the President. For its part, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe said that he considers himself honored to participate in an international conference to the 25-year anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy. T. Jagland also noted the relevance of today's meeting in the context of the early presidency of Ukraine in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Recall that the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has approved a plan of action to implement the duties and obligations of Ukraine, which derive from its membership in the Council of Europe. According to the approved plan, the Ministry of Justice and the Interior Ministry should develop a concept for reforming the law enforcement agencies within a year after the adoption of the new Criminal Procedure Code. Ministry of Justice also charged for 6 months after the completion of a comprehensive and systematic improvement of the legal regulation of elections and referendums in Ukraine to prepare and submit the draft to President of the Electoral Code.
