Xstrata will increase coal production by 80%

A well-known mining company Xstrata over the next 5 years may increase coal production by 80% amid strong demand for raw materials. It is reported Steelguru. It is assumed that by 2016, the corporation will be able to annually produce about 145 million tons of coal. Earlier, Xstrata has resumed production at a nickel mine Falcondo in the Dominican Republic. The decision to cease production was taken due to high production costs. As is known, Xstrata in 2010 compared to 2009 reduced coal production by 6% to 79.9 million tons. Mining declined due to bad weather in the I quarter and December last year. At the same time, copper production last year increased by 0,7% and reached 913.5 thousand tons.
